Oregon Women in Timber is a state-wide, non-profit organization dedicated to creating awareness of the importance of forests, trees and wood products in our daily lives. We strive to inform ourselves and others of the importance of sustainable forests to our environment and our economy.
Talk About Trees is an award-winning statewide forest education program. These on-site, hands-on science programs are offered to pre-school through eighth grade students free of charge and is presented by Talk About Trees facilitators.
The name “Women in Timber” can be a bit deceiving implying we are all women who work in the woods. In reality, the group was founded by wives, administrative assistants, and women who had a passion for the timber industry who wanted to provide sound education to the public on forestry issues. Since then, more women have chosen careers in the woods and timber industry as foresters, equipment operators, biologists, loggers, and many more. As this melding of careers and backgrounds ensues we want to be clear as to what our by-laws state: any person or group interested in the future of Oregon’s renewable resources can become a member of OWIT.
